Desert Ridge Marketplace Promised Four New Restaurants. Here's What's Actually on the Table.

August 27, 2026

If you've searched for what's new at Desert Ridge Marketplace anytime in the last ten months, you've read the same paragraph a dozen times with a different masthead on top. Four new dining concepts. Global flavors. A quote from Vestar's vice president of leasing about bringing "a world of flavors" to the property. The press release ran through nearly every Arizona lifestyle outlet almost word for word starting last October, and most of them are still sitting there, unedited, telling you all four spots are on the way.

Here's the part none of those roundups bothered to check back on: two of the four have been open for months. The other two are still listed as "coming soon" on the marketplace's own website, past the seasons their own announcements promised.

If you live near Tatum and the 101 and you've been waiting for a specific date to plan a dinner out, you've been waiting on the wrong information.

Two Are Serving Food. Two Are Still Renderings.

Here's where each of the four actually stands as of late August 2026.

Concept Space Announced Opening Status Right Now
Nadu 4,024 sq ft February 2026 Open
Kajiken Ramen 1,720 sq ft Before end of 2025 Open
Terra Gaucha Brazilian Steakhouse 7,669 sq ft Summer 2026 Still listed "coming soon"
Globe in the Dark 800 sq ft Early 2026 Still listed "coming soon"

Nadu and Kajiken hit their windows and opened their doors. Terra Gaucha and Globe in the Dark blew past theirs, and both still carry "coming soon" pages on the marketplace's own directory. Terra Gaucha's own national site doesn't list a Phoenix opening date either. It only invites you to join a mailing list to be told when one exists.

What You Can Actually Eat Right Now

Nadu is the one carrying the Michelin mention that made headlines back in the fall. It's the successor to what used to be Feringhee Modern Indian Cuisine, led by chef Sujan Sarkar, whose Chicago restaurant landed on the 2025 Michelin Guide for blending traditional Indian spices with locally sourced ingredients. That same team officially opened the Desert Ridge location this year, bringing a chef with a Michelin nod to a shopping center that, until recently, leaned hard on chain casual dining.

Kajiken Ramen is the more interesting story locally, even if it got less press. It's Arizona's first dedicated abura soba concept, a brothless style of ramen out of Nagoya, Japan, where thick noodles arrive coated in a seasoned oil and tare sauce blend that diners mix themselves before eating, instead of the noodles swimming in broth. The noodles and sauce are made in-house from ingredients imported directly from Japan. It's tucked into a 1,720 square foot space, it's already collecting reviews on Yelp and Apple Maps, and it's open seven days a week, closing at 9 p.m. Sunday through Thursday and 10 p.m. on weekends.

Both of these are real, both are sit-down, and both are worth the drive if you haven't been since they opened.

The Two Still Waiting on a Grand Opening

Terra Gaucha would be the biggest addition of the four if it opened tomorrow. It's a 7,669 square foot churrasco-style steakhouse, the first Arizona location for a chain that started in Jacksonville, and the format itself is a full production: a gourmet hot and cold table of cured meats and cheeses, followed by servers carving fire-roasted cuts table-side. That's the kind of restaurant that changes what a Friday night at the marketplace looks like. But right now, Terra Gaucha's own Phoenix location page still asks visitors to join a mailing list to be the first to know the opening date, and the marketplace's directory listing for the space is still filed under "coming soon."

Globe in the Dark is a smaller bet, an 800 square foot cocktail lounge built around a travel theme, with a stamped passport loyalty card and a themed happy hour called Business Class Boarding. It was supposed to open in early 2026. The marketplace's coming soon page for it is still active as well.

Neither delay tells you something is wrong. Restaurant build-outs slip constantly, especially anything requiring a full kitchen build and a liquor license in a new-to-market brand's first Arizona location. It just means the four-restaurant headline that ran across a dozen sites was accurate the day someone wrote it and outdated within weeks.

How to Spend a Friday at Desert Ridge This Month

While you wait on the other two, here's what's actually workable right now, tonight, without a reservation gamble:

  • Get to Kajiken early on a weekend. It's a small space and abura soba is worth doing right the first time, unrushed.
  • Catch a showing at AMC Desert Ridge 18. It runs IMAX and Dolby Cinema formats, and Macaroni Grill and The Keg are both close enough to make it a full evening.
  • Walk a loop at Wildfire Golf Club if you're not playing. It's one of the few genuinely quiet corners of the property after 6 p.m.
  • Book Nadu for a slower dinner if you want the Michelin connection without leaving North Phoenix.
  • Check what's on at Copper Blues. Live music books irregularly through the year, so it's worth a quick look before you head out rather than assuming a set night.

None of this requires waiting on Terra Gaucha's mailing list.

This Summer Already Told You Something

Desert Ridge Marketplace ran a Summer Block Party Series at The District Stage this year, monthly Thursday nights built around a theme: Country Bar Night with line dancing in June, Salsa Night with Latin dance lessons in July, and a 90s versus 2000s Throwback Night with a silent disco closing out the run in August. Families also had Splash Days at the pad and AMC lawn through June and July, each one built around a kid-friendly theme.

None of that was covered outside a couple of local outlets like citysuntimes.com, and none of it made the national dining roundups, because it's programming, not a restaurant opening with a press kit attached. But it's the kind of texture that tells you more about what living near this property actually feels like than a list of coming-soon logos does. The District Stage's free live music series has historically picked back up each fall, so if the last couple of years are any guide, weekend sets should start reappearing on the calendar again soon.

The Calendar Doesn't Wait for a Press Release

The lesson here isn't really about restaurants. It's that a press release date and an actual opening date are two different facts, and most coverage treats them as the same one. If you're the kind of person who tracks a neighborhood by what changes on the ground rather than what gets announced, Desert Ridge rewards that habit. Half of a headline came true. The other half is still a rendering on a website. Both of those are useful things to know if you're the one deciding where to eat this week.

Desert Ridge keeps adding layers like this, one restaurant and one event series at a time, and those layers are part of what shapes how the neighborhood feels to live in day to day. If you're curious how any of that is playing out on your own street, or you're weighing a move within North Phoenix and want someone who tracks this level of detail on your behalf, the DiBiase Team can walk you through it.
